A DAMAGING HEAVY SWELL ALERT REMAINS IN FORCE FOR SOUTHERN COOK WATERS.

A COASTAL FLOODING ALERT REMAINS IN FORCE FOR THE COASTAL AREAS OF SOUTHERN COOKS.

 

Situation:

An easterly wind flow prevails over Southern Cooks. Meanwhile, an intensifying high pressure system over the Tasman sea is expected to move to the far south of Southern Cooks and generate and direct heavy swells and strong winds over the group from Saturday.

An easterly wind flow prevails over Northern Cooks.

 

Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Southern Cooks:

Mainly fine.

Moderate to fresh easterly winds.

Moderate to rough seas.

Further outlook: Expect sea flooding of coastal areas during high tides, damaging heavy swells with wave heights of up to 5.0m and strong easterly winds over land areas and waters with speeds up to 25 knots and gusts of 35 knots. Rough to very rough seas.
Fine apart from brief showers.

 

For Rarotonga:

Mainly fine.
